Hi, I’m Halie!
Founder & Guide of nested kin
I created nested kin for people trying to find their way through the emotional realities of ecological change — people who care deeply about the world and are looking for a grounded space to process what they are carrying.
More About Me
For nearly 10 years, I have worked in corporate responsibility, sustainability, and community engagement, exploring how people and communities navigate complex social and ecological challenges.
My education includes a master's degree in Social Innovation and Sustainability Leadership, a bachelor's degree in Religious Studies and Social & Ecological Justice, and training in:
inclusion practices for conservation professionals
climate-focused trauma and resilience training
therapeutic nature-based interventions
presence-based coaching
wilderness first aid
grief facilitation
harm reduction
I bring these different threads together in nested kin: a practice grounded in both the broader ecological realities we face and the very human experience of trying to find our way through them.
My Approach
My work is informed by ecological grief, climate psychology, climate anxiety, presence-based coaching, and nature-based approaches to healing and resilience. I draw from somatic practices, nature connection, ritual, and earth-based traditions to support people navigating eco-anxiety, environmental grief, uncertainty, and other climate emotions.
I draw inspiration from Indigenous and other earth-centered ways of understanding our relationship with the living world. I approach these traditions with respect and humility, recognizing that they arise from distinct cultures, histories, communities, and lived relationships to place.
What Inspires Me
My work is also shaped by the writers, thinkers, teachers, and practitioners whose work has influenced how I understand grief, belonging, resilience, relationships, and our place within the living world.
Some of my teachers and influences include Francis Weller, Mary Oliver, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Joanna Macy, Jenny Odell, Thomas Merton, Susanne Moser, Brené Brown, bell hooks, and Wendell Berry, among many others.
